Associate Director of Teaching & Learning

My work as Associate Director of Teaching + Learning at MIT's Teaching + Learning Lab is informed by my experiences as an educational developer, a seasoned classroom teacher and former faculty member, and a scientist with expertise in memory and metacognition. I also taught in the Psychology department at Hendrix College for seven years and earned tenure. In my current role at the Teaching + Learning Lab, I develop and collaborate on multiscale initiatives to promote equitable and inclusive teaching practices and learning environments, including facilitating a Community of Anti-Racist Educators, designing and delivering inclusive teaching workshops for departments and for graduate students, and collaborating on a departmental needs assessment of inclusive and equitable teaching practices. I also co-lead Flipping Failure (flippingfailure.mit.edu/), a community initiative to provide visibility to MIT students' stories of academic challenge and resilience so that we can begin shifting the conversation around struggle from something to be ashamed of to something that is human.
My work is anchored in a deep commitment to fostering inclusive and equitable learning communities, supporting students' sense of belonging, and sharing teaching strategies based in the science of learning.
