The work of educational development within “the margins” of the academy is well-known, and the inconsistency in roles, duties, expectations, and reporting structures frequently stations us in agonistic situations between the faculty we support and the administrative structures to whom we report, often cultivating unclear purpose. These complexities can also affect our sense of professional identity and agency, and thus likewise impact our self-efficacy and job satisfaction. This roundtable explores how those numerous forces further shape professional self-confidence and fulfillment; in other words, how might those tensions impact how we feel about our work as well as ourselves?
